first roumanian-american synagogue

The Tenement Museum's has a new Lower East Side image bank up, endlessly fascinating. (Thanks to Bowery Boogie for the preview this week.)

AVL extends a warm welcome to Inventions and Dimensions, the newest addition to the interwebs. Already up for your listening pleasure are three posts, including one on Mose Allison, who at age 82 is celebrating the release of a new album. He'll be playing for free next Wednesday night at Madison Square Park.

Me, eating dinner in the Times.

You win this round, Mr. Patton.

nyc free & dirt cheap 4th edition

The fourth edition officially has a cover and a release date, putting an extra whip to my back in getting this draft out. There's going to be a ton of great new stuff, on top of updates for the existing classics. First off, I encourage all New Yorkers to take advantage of the Virtual Line for Shakespeare in the Park. It costs nothing to sign up, and if you get lucky you'll be saving yourself hours of waiting in Central Park. The star wattage is way up this year (Al Pacino!), but I've had success with this thing in the past, and againit costs nothing to try.

the poetry of yelp

How descriptive can I get.
Its Falafel and I don't work for the food channel.
It tastes like what its supposed to taste like.

I asked
our waitress
what was
the best dish
with tofu
and she
made a face
like she was
about
to barf
on our table

and said
she didn't like tofu,
so she didn't know.

Super, now I am really excited
for this tofu
that I'm about to order.

There were a lot of girls here last night but all freakin stuck up bitches.
We were just lookin for a chill spot to have a drink after the Sons & Heirs show.
It was like asshole night in New York City
or somethin.
From people in bars to people on sidewalks and to dumbass drivers
who are so chicken to make a left on Delancey.

This night would of rocked if assholes just stayed home.

most terrifying resume ever

"Jacob M. Appel holds a B.A. and an M.A. from Brown, an M.A. and an M.Phil. from Columbia, an M.D. from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, an M.F.A. from N.Y.U., and a J.D. from Harvard Law School."

Can that even be real? Dude's three years younger than me.

As a writer he's received 11,000 rejection letters. If I had that many rejections I'd find it so humbling I'd go out and get a few advanced degrees.
"Thanks to the new street fair, Hester has all the hipster credibility that the Steve Madden-bedecked Rivington lacks." -- this morning on Racked

Great shot of a disappearing Bowery from docman's flickr on EV Grieve this morning. But I swear I know the van in the lower right!

It used to park in Dumbo, under the Manhattan Bridge.
