This treasure trove has been making its way around the webs, but if you haven't seen it yet, it's really spectacular: color slides from 1939 to 1943. (The above shot is by Jack Delano.) In our visual shorthand for the WWII era it's almost always black and white. To see it in color is like seeing a whole different time (more real in a way, since we relate to color more immediately.) Just look at the difference in conveying the Depression.
