Powerlines are one of those objects that stand out in pictures yet you easily filter them out in person. I'm always struck by how oppressive they are in pics.
from rs' comment i immediately associated to crumb's line about the power line towers he put in the background of his art - although he'd create whatever scenes he wanted, he'd copy actual background power structures and lines, saying "you can't make that up." without following VL's link i'm sure he means the same reference. also http://tinyurl.com/29juy75
